Grid Dynamics and Virtual Ark Move ISV Applications to the Cloud
IT architecture experts and managed application services provider collaborate to migrate on-premises software apps to SaaS, leveraging cloud services
Fremont, Calif., August 23, 2010 – Independent software vendors (ISVs) can now quickly convert on-
premise software to software-as-a-service (SaaS) in cloud deployments through a new partnership between
Grid Dynamics, the global authority on enterprise systems scalability and cloud enablement, and Virtual Ark, an international managed application services leader in next-generation SaaS for ISVs.
This best-of-breed partnership will help end users quickly and cost-efficiently take advantage of specialist
software applications from leading ISVs in an on-demand, pay-as-you-go model to meet their specific needs.
Virtual Ark is an international managed application services provider that partners with ISVs to provide large
enterprises with on-demand access to core business applications on public and/or private clouds, such as
Amazon Web Services, in a unique next-generation SaaS model.
Grid Dynamics is well-known for its work helping Fortune 500 companies re-architect legacy
enterprise applications for delivery in a SaaS model. The company is also recognized for architecting
cloud deployments, highly scalable systems, and high performance computing (HPC) solutions.
Together, the two companies can provide all required resources to enable ISVs to move their applications
to cloud-deployed SaaS and for end users to improve the availability of business-critical software resources
in a very cost-efficient manner. Where required, Grid Dynamics will help convert the ISV applications to
SaaS and help deploy them to customer requirements. Virtual Ark will provide the necessary ongoing SaaS
services.
“Worldwide software as a service (SaaS) revenue within the enterprise application software market is
forecast to surpass $8.5 billion in 2010, up 14.1 percent from 2009 revenue of $7.5 billion,” according to
Gartner, Inc.
“By providing global access to software on demand, ISVs can help their customers significantly reduce
costs, move more of the IT budget from fixed to variable costs and increase flexibility of IT resources to
quickly respond to market demands,” explained Klaus Bartosch, executive vice president, Virtual Ark. “Grid
Dynamics has extensive expertise in system infrastructure to help convert popular legacy ISV applications to
SaaS and help organizations deploy them in their unique IT environments.”
“Migrating on-premises software to SaaS is a tough, but inevitable challenge ahead of many ISVs,” noted
Boris Renski, executive vice president, Grid Dynamics. “However, the popularity of SaaS on public and
private clouds is growing because of its high value to enterprises. Virtual Ark’s approach to delivering SaaS
equips their ISV partners with a strategic advantage and will make our customers’ transition much easier.”
While some larger ISVs have already begun this transition, many mid-sized ISVs are at the beginning of this
evolution. These are the companies that will most likely opt for third-party managed services in the manner
that Virtual Ark provides, because it is a more efficient way to help their customers, and doesn’t divert them
from their core business of specialty software development into application hosting infrastructure. Assistance
from Grid Dynamics to re-architect applications will help convert applications quickly and seamlessly, with
no impact on daily IT operations.

Grid Dynamics and Burstorm Partner on Cloud Solutions
Combine expertise in cloud and enterprise scalability with IaaS knowledge to deliver complete solutions
FREMONT, Calif., July 30, 2010 – Grid Dynamics, the authority on cloud computing deployments and enterprise systems scalability, has signed a partnership agreement with Burstorm, which helps enterprises select best-of-breed Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) cloud providers.
As the initial wave of concern about cloud security and instability passes, and private and public clouds are increasingly used to enable elasticity of enterprise systems, Grid Dynamics has seen an increasing number of projects that require careful selection of third party IaaS cloud providers.
Burstorm helps these companies evaluate and select the best providers, and negotiate long-term sourcing contracts with them. The company’s recent focus has on IaaS cloud services.
Burstorm customers frequently need expertise at the middleware or application level, in which Grid Dynamics has deep expertise. At the same time, Grid Dynamics customers are often looking for the best options in IaaS. Together, Grid Dynamics and Burstorm will help meet the needs of both companies’ customers and will refer customers to each other.
“Every day, you hear about a new IaaS provider entering the market or a new service being offered by one of the existing ones,” noted Boris Renski, EVP at Grid Dynamics. “Because the majority of our projects today involve building clouds or cloud-enabling existing enterprise applications, Burstorm’s expertise in helping enterprise customers manage the purchasing cycle of infrastructure cloud offerings will be extremely valuable to our cloud practice.”
Grid Dynamics clients today include the likes of Cisco, eBay, Agilent, and other industry leaders.
“We invest many resources to constantly monitor the IaaS provider market and help our clients get the best value,” explained Brandon Abbey, CEO of Burstorm. “However, our focus is primarily on the physical infrastructure. This partnership with Grid Dynamics compliments our infrastructure knowledge with middleware and application level expertise, enabling us to provide a complete end-to-end solution to our customers.”
Burstorm customers include PortsAmerica, Complete Genomics, Adaptec, JDA Software to name a few.

Grid Dynamics Offers HEAT Guarantee for Summer
Special methodology speeds complex financial modeling on Excel
FREMONT, Calif., June 30, 2010 – Grid Dynamics, the authority on scaling mission-critical systems, is putting forward a unique offer for new customers in July and August. The company will guarantee that Excel applications using its HPC Excel Acceleration Toolkit (HEAT) will run at least 10 times faster. Otherwise, Grid Dynamics will manually adapt the Excel files for free.
HEAT helps companies break through performance barriers that are typical when running complex, compute-intensive financial models using Microsoft Office Excel. While Excel is the industry standard for financial modeling, it doesn’t have the computational power to process complex calculations quickly. Running these models on a Microsoft Windows HPC Server cluster, which can perform large and complex calculations in a fraction of the time, will boost performance. However, first the Excel models must be adapted for this parallel computing. HEAT includes a straightforward interface to enable financial analysts to define parallelization logic with little to no modification of the original workbook and only minimal training.
Grid Dynamics client Abacus Solutions, which provides risk management and portfolio management solutions for tier one energy companies like PSEG and Scottish Power, used HEAT to accelerate one of its energy trading models.
“Using frameworks like HEAT, Excel-based models for performing full simulation of market prices followed by full valuation can now complete execution many times faster than traditional solution methods,” said Dr. Salim Jabbour, president and CEO of Abacus.
Grid Dynamics customers are experiencing several business benefits from HEAT:
- Highly paid analysts who work with Excel are more productive and spend less time on each project.
- Critical business information is available much faster to decision-makers.
- There is no need to invest in expensive upgrades to servers to run Excel faster.
Grid Dynamics will honor the guarantee to new customers in July and August, provided that the model logic in the customer’s Excel workbooks allows for parallelization.
HEAT is a set of tools integrated with Microsoft Excel and Windows HPC Server that includes:
- Excel plug-in for defining parallel execution parameters and debugging
- Components for visualizing parallelization logic
- Server-side framework on top of Windows HPC Server that helps orchestrate parallel compute cycles
A demo of HEAT is available at www.excelhpc.com.

Grid Dynamics Helps Retailers Adapt Quickly to New Sales Channels
Rapid evolution of existing IT systems puts e-retailers on track for higher revenues
FREMONT, Calif., April 30, 2010 – Grid Dynamics has released Scale4Commerce, an architectural approach to improve retailers’ existing IT systems. The new solution helps e-retailers quickly adapt current IT operations to keep pace with constant changes in consumer buying behavior and rapid technology innovations that create new sales channel opportunities such as mobile and social media. e-retailers must quickly modify their IT operations to accommodate these new opportunities. Scale4Commerce provides them with a competitive advantage by deploying a set of scalable business services that intelligently coordinate interactions with existing back-end systems behind the scenes and in real time. “Retailers must have cross-channel, multi-touch point selling approaches that push relevant products, no matter if the shopping experience is enabled by a Website, mobile device, or a social media application,” noted Victoria Livschitz, CEO, Grid Dynamics. “Our solution employs a gradual approach, allowing companies to adapt operations in a modular, iterative fashion, unlike the “big bang” of SOA projects, which can be disruptive to business operations.” Scale4Commerce provides:
- Simplified back-end architecture with each deployment into a new sales channel
- Decreased time-to-market on new applications and services
- Capability to take advantage of distributed and/or outsourced development of front-end user applications
- No investment requirement for new software licenses or hardware appliances
Engineering around the existing technology stack, Scale4Commerce extracts maximum utility out of current systems already in place. Implementation takes place in conjunction with a front-end user application or service, such as an iPhone app or integration with a social media portal or third-party reseller channel. The scope of initial deployment is limited to business services that are relevant to the particular app at hand. This provides enhanced back-end agility and unprecedented time-to-market in deployment of new front-end user experiences.

The Cloud4AQ™ solution offering gives the developers the ultimate luxury – practically unlimited hardware resources dedicated to them, available in any configuration for any period of time, at a price point that even the most budget-constrained organizations can afford. This is a game-changer for the software development industry Fremont and San Francisco, CA (Vocus/PRWEB) July 28, 2009 –- Grid Dynamics, a leading expert in scalability of mission-critical systems, has announced the launch of its Cloud4QA™ services offering, in collaboration with its cloud infrastructure partner, GoGrid. Cloud4QA™ includes Grid Dynamics’ proprietary methodology and a set of tools designed to help enterprise customers quickly adopt a public cloud computing infrastructure for application testing and development. Application testing is a recurring activity on every software development project. Test hardware is expensive to buy, configure and maintain, so most development projects use less hardware and test less frequently. Even when companies invest in testing labs, the precious resources end up being either over- or under-subscribed most of the time. In addition, frequent set-up and re-configuration of these environments between the test runs become significant cost factors and process bottlenecks. The result is a backlog accumulation of testing jobs with increased time-to-market, as well as sub-optimal software quality, hindered by the lack of adequate test hardware. Offering benefits such as on-demand resource provisioning, reduction in cost of ownership and location independence, public clouds are the perfect solution for these common problems. “The Cloud4AQ™ solution offering gives the developers the ultimate luxury–-practically unlimited hardware resources dedicated to them, available in any configuration for any period of time, at a price point that even the most budget-constrained organizations can afford. This is a game-changer for the software development industry” said Victoria Livschitz, CEO and Founder of Grid Dynamics. The company has also announced that its cloud infrastructure partner, GoGrid, will complement the Cloud4QA™ solution with its hosted cloud offering. "Customers who are looking to move their test and development environment into the cloud will greatly benefit from Grid Dynamics' expertise combined with GoGrid's market-leading cloud offerings and hosting infrastructure” said John Keagy, CEO and Co-Founder of GoGrid. Grid Dynamics' Cloud4QA™ Resource Kit, which includes customer case studies, demo of relevant tools, industry whitepapers and an in-depth methodology description, is available free of charge at www.cloud4qa.com.
