Production Engineer is a strong skilled DevOps engineer with cloud and
BigData expertise responsible for optimal performance and uptime of
online services for one of the largest US retailers. Candidate will
analyze micro-services system availability and performance, with a
special focus on the back-end and infrastructure elements. Once
bottlenecks and potential failure points are identified, a candidate
will propose and validate solutions that the operations and
development teams will work on

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with developers in supporting new features and services
  • Actively drive technical RCA and root cause resolution to preserve and improve availability
  • Collaborate with fellow SREs and other teams effectively to achieve quick diagnosis, resolution or effective handover of issues for progressive troubleshooting
  • Be responsible for daily management and oversight of SRE work queues to SLA
  • Analyze product performance and reliability, proposing and driving enhancements and improvements
  • Identify and write automation that fixes things before they become service impacting and tell us when they fail
  • Work in the team using agile methodology of software development (Scrum, 2 weeks iterations, continuous integration, planning games, daily stand up, etc).
  • Perform periodic on-call duty as part of a global team maintaining the availability and performance of the eCommerce site and the various internal services and systems on which these core interfaces depend

Requirements:

  • Good troubleshooting skills
  • Proficiency in one or more of operations-friendly languages (Shell, Python, Ruby, etc.)
  • Solid understanding of TCP/IP networking and HTTP
  • Knowledge of RDBMS
  • Hands-on experience with XML and related technologies
  • Experience with Java Basics
  • Theoretical knowledge in CS: algorithms, complexity and space estimation, data structures
  • Desire and ability for quick learning of new applications, tools, and technologies
  • A sense of ownership, ability to drive projects toward completion
  • Good communication skills, a command of written and spoken English

Will be a plus:

  • Understanding of JVM internals, practical experience with Enterprise Java
  • Understanding of modern concurrency and transaction processing concepts
  • Passion to understand responsibilities of solution components, data and control flows for the whole system, be able to map technical aspects to business processes and understand their importance
  • Familiarity with communication protocols and approaches to service integration
  • Knowledge of best practices related to performance and disaster recovery
  • Familiarity with RHEL and Oracle
  • Familiarity with Spring/Hibernate
  • Familiarity with distributed / cloud computing
  • Experience with load balancing and high availability
  • Experience with monitoring and analysis tools
  • Experience with messaging queues
  • Experience with data/service grids
