Senior Kotlin/Java Developer – Vim Expertise Required
We’re looking for a Senior Kotlin/Java Developer (Vim Enthusiast) to work on challenging backend development tasks with a strong focus on stability, performance, and clean architecture. This role requires hands-on Vim knowledge (must-have), deep experience in Kotlin/Java, and the ability to tackle complex codebases while writing reliable, maintainable solutions. Bonus if you’re familiar with Java Swing, Kotlin coroutines, or the broader Vim/Neovim ecosystem.
Essential functions
Contribute to the development and improvement of IdeaVim.
Ensure stability and performance, particularly in remote development scenarios.
Analyze and work with unfamiliar codebases (Kotlin, Java, and C).
Break down complex problems into manageable tasks and implement reliable solutions.
Write comprehensive documentation for solutions and decisions to support future knowledge sharing.
Drive your own work while collaborating closely with a highly skilled engineering team.
Qualifications
Strong experience with Kotlin or Java (the codebase is primarily Kotlin).
Hands-on Vim usage & knowledge (this is a must-have).
Ability to understand and work with complex codebases.
Strong focus on clean architecture, testing, and maintainability.
Excellent communication skills, especially in documenting technical solutions.
Self-driven and able to manage tasks independently.
Would be a plus
Knowledge of Java Swing fundamentals (Event Dispatch Thread, Event Queue).
Advanced knowledge of Vim commands, configurations, and the broader Vim ecosystem (Neovim, SpaceVim, etc.).
Experience with Kotlin coroutines.
A true passion for Vim and improving developer workflows.
