This position focuses on managing and evolving customer-facing, production data platforms for a leading global consumer electronics and fitness brand.

You will be responsible for the full strategic roadmap and day-to-day operations of our core data platforms (MySQL and Cassandra). This work involves building and maintaining large-scale, highly distributed database solutions on a GCP-based Linux platform, with a core focus on high availability, performance management, and security.

Essential functions

  • Design large-scale databases, ensuring scalability, security, and high availability

  • Lead efforts in advanced database optimization, including query optimization, database indexing, partitioning, and storage management

  • Develop solutions for high availability using database clustering, replication, and sharding

  • Develop and implement comprehensive disaster recovery plans, ensuring data integrity and minimal downtime in case of failures

  • Implement advanced security measures, including encryption, data masking, and user activity monitoring

  • Automate database maintenance tasks, including backups, monitoring, and alerting systems

  • Manage complex cloud and on-premise database infrastructures, ensuring they are scalable and cost-effective

  • Implement robust monitoring solutions for databases, including alerting and performance dashboards

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, related field or equivalent practical experience.

  • 4+ years of experience working with critical MySQL and/or Cassandra data platforms.

  • IAAS Infrastructure experience for DB platforms.

  • Source code-based management of DB configs and related infrastructure.

  • Managing changes via Terraform and Ansible (or comparable tools).

  • Demonstrated expertise with open source/Linux platforms.

  • Cloud platform experience (GCP ideally).

  • Kafka experience.

  • Hands-on experience designing and implementing database replication strategies.

  • Excellent scripting skills and working knowledge of Python and shell scripts.

  • Experience in designing and automating repetitive processes.

  • The ability to work under pressure and multitask.

  • Proficient in English (B2).

Would be a plus

  • Experience communicating technical concepts to audiences, great stakeholder collaboration skills.

  • Stress-resistance, ability to efficiently detect and resolve production issues.

  • Experience in supporting and optimising high-load production systems & services is an advantage.

  • Experience in providing on-call support, troubleshooting issues and experience working according to the SLO.
