Big Data Developer
The project involves a large-scale cloud modernization initiative focused on migrating existing on-premises SQL Server databases to Azure SQL. This role will be a key contributor during the early stages of the Azure Cloud migration, with responsibilities spanning database migration, cloud data platform design, and near real-time data integration.
The engineer will work closely with stakeholders, architects, and cross-functional teams to design and implement scalable, high-performance data solutions using Azure SQL and Azure Data Factory (ADF). As the cloud migration progresses, there will be opportunities to contribute across application modernization and data engineering initiatives.
Essential functions
Design, develop, and implement database migration solutions from on-prem SQL Server to Azure SQL (Managed Instance / Hyperscale)
Lead and participate in design sessions to gather requirements, review architecture, and communicate design artifacts with stakeholders
Design and implement high-performance, near real-time data movement pipelines using Azure Data Factory (ADF)
Build and integrate end-to-end data pipelines from source systems to target data repositories, ensuring data quality, consistency, and reliability
Collaborate with project team members to support additional components of the cloud data platform
Troubleshoot and resolve application issues and production defects, including critical production incidents requiring immediate attention
Support ongoing optimization, monitoring, and performance tuning of Azure SQL and ADF solutions
Perform other duties as assigned to support project delivery and cloud migration goals
Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
5+ years of overall software development experience
2+ years of hands-on experience with Azure SQL Database, including Managed Instance and/or Hyperscale
2+ years of hands-on experience building data movement pipelines using Azure Data Factory (ADF)
Strong experience with Microsoft SQL Server (on-prem and cloud)
Experience designing and implementing scalable, performant data integration solutions
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to handle production issues under tight timelines
Excellent communication skills and experience working with cross-functional teams
Would be a plus
Azure cloud certification is desirable.
Azure Cloud Certification (AZ-900, AZ-204, AZ-305, DP-203, or similar)
Experience with large-scale cloud migration projects
Experience working in regulated or enterprise environments
Exposure to near real-time or event-driven data architectures
Familiarity with DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure-as-code in Azure
Experience contributing beyond database migration into application modernization or data engineering initiatives
