Staff/Senior Python Engineer

San Ramon, CA, US

We are looking for a Senior/Staff Backend Engineer to own the core services at the heart of the platform — the data-intensive computation layer that turns curated financial and operational data into correct, reproducible, fully traceable results. This is the structured engineering beneath the product: not dashboards, not an LLM wrapper, but the services that do the heavy computation and stand behind every number the platform produces.

You would be responsible for building reusable, configuration-driven computation components, enforcing strong controls and guardrails over automated output, and guaranteeing every result can be reproduced and audited. You provide technical leadership for the backend team and partner with data, AI, and product to translate domain logic into robust, reusable services.

Essential functions

  • Core Computation Services (35%)
Own the services that perform the platform's core financial and operational computation
Build a composable library of reusable computation components driven by configuration
Produce results that are fully traceable to their source inputs
Compute the supporting quality and confidence signals around each result
  • Computation & Correctness (20%)
Express complex logic as correct, performant, set-based computation over the warehouse
Guarantee results reconcile and are reproducible
Own performance and cost of the core services
  • Configuration Runtime (15%)
Build the runtime that executes per-domain configuration
Add new domains and use cases through configuration — never a bespoke code path
    Keep the component library extensible
  • Controls & Auditability (15%)
Enforce guardrails over automated output in code
Build the controls / feature-flag system to scope or disable automated behavior per tenant or feature
Build audit logging and lineage for end-to-end traceability to source
  • Multi-Cloud & Multi-Tenant (10%)
    Build for a multi-cloud-ready, multi-tenant-ready, customer-hosted deployment model
Services that run inside a customer's environment with strong isolation and no egress
  • Technical Leadership (5%)
Set patterns, review designs, and mentor the backend team
Partner with data, AI, and product on service design

Qualifications

Languages & Services

  • Python

  • Production service design & testing

  • Config-driven / rules-engine architectures

Data & Compute

  • SQL (window functions, large joins)

  • Snowflake / PostgreSQL

  • Set-based, reproducible computation

Platform

  • Docker / Kubernetes / Terraform

  • Multi-tenant, customer-hosted deployment

  • Audit logging & lineage

Required Qualifications

Core

  • 8+ years backend engineering (Python / Go / Java or similar), with significant Staff+ time owning complex, data-intensive systems.

  • An passion for correctness, traceability, and testability — "every result is explainable and reproducible" as a requirement.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Business, Engineering, or a related field.

Technical Depth

  • Elite SQL and data modeling — window functions, large-scale joins, and rigorous reasoning about correctness and performance.

  • Experience designing configuration-driven, extensible service architectures.

  • Strong system design for reliability, isolation, and reproducibility.

Would be a plus

  • Finance / accounting / analytics domain, or genuine willingness to learn how financial statements are built and reconciled.

  • dbt, Snowflake / PostgreSQL; multi-tenant, customer-hosted deployment; Docker / Kubernetes / Terraform.

  • Exposure to ML / statistical workflows and LLM application patterns — enough to integrate them well.

  • Experience building auditable systems in a regulated environment.

We offer

  • Opportunity to work on cutting-edge projects
  • Work with a highly motivated and dedicated team
  • Competitive salary
  • Flexible schedule
  • Benefits package - medical insurance, vision, dental, etc.
