Senior QA Engineer (Java + Spark SQL)

Yerevan, Armenia

We're looking for a Senior QA Java Engineer with strong Spark SQL skills to join a team working at the intersection of Java-based systems and big data/analytics. This role is ideal for a quality-focused engineer with strong technical depth in both traditional QA/test engineering and data validation across large-scale data pipelines. You'll play a key role in ensuring the reliability and correctness of systems that combine Java-based applications with big data technologies like Spark and Hadoop.

Essential functions

  • Design, execute, and maintain test strategies for Java-based applications and data pipelines

  • Validate data integrity and correctness across large-scale datasets using strong SQL and Spark SQL skills

  • Write and execute complex queries involving aggregations to verify data outputs

  • Collaborate with engineering teams to identify, document, and resolve quality issues

  • Participate in requirements gathering and translate business needs into test scenarios

  • Support database migration validation and API response testing as needed

  • Be available for occasional late-hour meetings to coordinate with distributed/global teams

Qualifications

  • Good proficiency in Java (or basic Scala with a strong Java background)

  • Significant experience in Quality/Test Engineering

  • Strong skills in querying and understanding databases

  • Strong Spark SQL skills, including working with aggregates

  • Theoretical knowledge of the Hadoop tech stack

  • Theoretical knowledge of Spark and Apache Airflow

Would be a plus

  • Willingness to join late-night meetings occasionally (not a regular requirement)

  • Familiarity with database migration tasks and validating API responses

  • General familiarity with Airflow and Spark

  • Practical (hands-on) experience with the Hadoop tech stack

  • UI testing skillset (bonus)
