Senior Big Data Engineer
We are looking for a Senior Big Data Engineer to scale and refine our data platform alongside cross-functional engineering teams while empowering our Data Scientists with reliable infrastructure, smooth operational processes and hands-on support.
Working hours: Overlap until 3 pm PDT
Essential functions
Partner with cross-functional engineering teams to operate, scale, and evolve our core data platform infrastructure.
Work closely with Data Scientists to provide support, optimize workflows, and establish robust operational processes.
Build and maintain efficient CI/CD pipelines, automated deployments, and observability solutions.
Manage high-volume Spark jobs, Kubernetes resource allocation, and storage performance across HDFS and object stores.
Enforce data governance, authentication protocols, schema design, and table management practices.
Qualifications
Strong experience managing Spark workloads, Kubernetes resource management (on-prem), and distributed systems architectures.
Deep expertise in building CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker), and automation tools.
Solid grasp of partitioning, schema design, type safety, file compaction, and modern table formats (e.g., Iceberg, Hive).
Hands-on experience with Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, on-call rotations, and proactive system alerting.
Proven track record with authentication implementation and data governance frameworks.
Proven experience configuring, optimizing, and operating Trino/Presto for high-performance interactive querying across large-scale distributed datasets.
