Senior Java/Kotlin Engineer – Strategic Risk Platform
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Java/Kotlin Engineer to join the core engineering team delivering a major, multi-year strategic risk system replatforming programme.
You will work at the heart of the programme, building key components within a highly scalable, risk-tolerant architecture designed to handle very large volumes of data in a demanding production environment.
This is an opportunity to work alongside a high-calibre team of senior engineers while gaining valuable exposure to Equity Derivatives and risk technology.
Essential functions
Key Responsibilities
Design and develop core components of the strategic risk platform using Java and Kotlin.
Build highly scalable and resilient systems capable of processing very large volumes of data.
Apply TDD and strong software engineering principles throughout the development lifecycle.
Develop production-quality code within a high-pressure financial markets environment.
Contribute to architectural and technical decisions across the replatforming programme.
Work closely with experienced engineers to deliver critical components of the platform.
Take ownership of technical challenges and proactively identify opportunities for improvement.
Participate in code reviews, testing and continuous improvement of engineering standards.
Support the reliability, scalability and maintainability of the platform.
Qualifications
Essential Skills & Experience
Strong commercial software engineering experience with Java and/or Kotlin.
Strong experience with Kotlin is highly desirable.
Solid understanding and practical experience of TDD.
Experience building scalable, production-grade systems.
Previous experience working with very large volumes of data.
Comfortable working in high-pressure production environments.
Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to engineering challenges.
Ability to work effectively within a highly experienced engineering team.
Would be a plus
Desirable Experience
Experience within investment banking, financial services or capital markets.
Knowledge of Equity Derivatives and/or risk systems.
Experience working on large-scale platform replatforming or transformation programmes.
Experience with distributed and highly scalable architectures.
Strong interest in learning financial markets and the underlying business domain.

You will join a high-performing core team of approximately 8 engineers, made up of JUXT and client-side developers.
The team operates to a very high engineering standard, with experienced senior developers who value quality, ownership and collaboration.
