Senior DevOps Engineer (Azure DevOps experience)
We are seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer to join a high-impact, greenfield enterprise data platform initiative for a national-scale sustainability organisation. In this role, you will help design and build a brand-new, cloud-native Azure data and integration platform from scratch that will manage approximately $7 billion in transactions and handle sensitive PII for ~30 million individuals. Working alongside senior UK-based consultants and a third-party managed infrastructure provider (Azure as a Service), you will drive the Discovery and implementation phases, establishing scalable Infrastructure as Code (IaC) patterns, robust security controls, and automated deployment pipelines for a national rollout.
Essential functions
Greenfield Platform Automation & IaC: Architect, build, and deploy cloud infrastructure modules from scratch using Terraform and Azure DevOps, ensuring scalable, repeatable, and maintainable environment setups.
Infrastructure Collaboration & Integration: Partner directly with a third-party infrastructure company providing Azure as a Service to establish landing zones, network configurations, and seamless integration layers.
Security & Privacy Hardening: Implement enterprise-grade security controls, identity management, and compliance standards tailored for high-volume PII (~30m citizens) and high-value financial data ($7bn value).
CI/CD Pipeline Engineering: Design, build, and maintain robust Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines for automated testing, infrastructure provisioning, and continuous deployment across environments.
Discovery & Architectural Support: Contribute actively to technical discovery phases, providing DevOps and cloud architecture insights to shape the platform's long-term roadmap.
Stakeholder & Distributed Team Alignment: Work in close collaboration with UK-based client leadership, data architects, and distributed engineering teams in an Agile/Scrum delivery environment.
Qualifications
Core DevOps & Azure Expertise: Proven experience as a Senior DevOps Engineer with deep, hands-on expertise in Microsoft Azure cloud environments and architecture.
Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Advanced proficiency with Terraform for enterprise-level cloud provisioning, module creation, and state management.
Azure DevOps Mastery: Extensive experience designing and implementing automated CI/CD pipelines, build/release strategies, and quality gates using Azure DevOps.
Security & Compliance Awareness: Strong understanding of cloud security best practices, data privacy controls, PII protection, and compliance frameworks for high-trust systems.
Autonomy & Communication: High degree of autonomy with a pragmatic, solution-oriented mindset; fluent written and spoken English with clear technical communication skills.
Location & Availability: Based in Poland, aligned with UK business hours and comfortable operating within a distributed Agile team environment.
Would be a plus
Modern Azure Data Stack: Familiarity with data engineering workloads and Azure-native analytics services, such as Azure Databricks, Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Factory, or Azure Purview.
Third-Party Infrastructure Coordination: Prior experience working with managed service providers (MSPs) or external infrastructure partners providing Azure as a Service.
Domain Knowledge: Experience working in the sustainability, public sector, utilities, or heavily regulated financial environments handling national-scale data.
Agile Ecosystem: Strong experience with Jira for backlog management, Confluence for technical documentation, and standard Scrum delivery practices.
