Senior Staff Software Engineer

Essential functions

• Perform all aspects of software architecture, design, and backend development activities for client-facing and internal systems. 

• Create and validate proof-of-concepts (POCs) for new business and technical solutions.

•  Lead technical discussions, propose architectural approaches, and define implementation strategies based on business needs and system constraints. 

• Design and develop scalable, high-load, and distributed backend systems primarily using Python and Java. 

• Build and maintain data processing pipelines for search, recommendation, and e-commerce platforms. 

• Prepare and maintain technical documentation including architecture designs, integration specifications, and delivery plans. 

• Coordinate technical delivery milestones across offshore and onsite teams to ensure timely project completion. 

• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineering teams without formal direct supervisory responsibilities. 

• Support DevOps initiatives including CI/CD pipeline setup, system monitoring, and optimization activities. 

• Investigate and analyze production issues, implementing improvements to system quality, performance, and stability.

• Various worksites—job may allow for remote work; job may involve relocation to anticipated or unanticipated locations across the United States, including client sites and Grid Dynamics’ offices throughout the United States and/or company headquarters located in San Ramon, CA.

Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATION: Master of Science degree in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field. 

 REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: At least ONE (1) year of experience in the job offered or at least ONE (1) year of experience in the following:

1. Backend software architecture and development using Java and Python for large-scale, high-performance systems.

2. Architecture and delivery of scalable e-commerce and supply chain subsystems.

3. Design and implementation of synchronous and asynchronous interfaces for distributed, data-intensive platforms.

4. Development of multi-layer in-memory and distributed caching systems.

5. Design and modeling of data storage and organization systems using relational, NoSQL, graph-based, and ontology-based models.

6. Implementation of scalable, event-driven data processing pipelines.

7.     Designing and implementing Information Retrieval systems.

8. Building and operating scalable backend infrastructures in cloud and hybrid environments.
