Senior Kotlin / Java Engineer – FX Risk & Valuation

London, United Kingdom

The Opportunity

JUXT is partnering with a Tier 1 investment bank on a strategic initiative to build its next-generation FX Risk Platform.

The programme is consolidating risk management capabilities into a modern, scalable architecture while decommissioning multiple legacy risk applications.

We are looking for a Senior Kotlin / Java Engineer to join the team building the platform's FX Options end-of-day Official Valuation capabilities, supporting the bank's Asia FX trading desk.

The platform is built using Java, Kotlin and Apache Flink, with engineers embedded directly alongside the bank's development team and involved across the full delivery lifecycle.

The Role

You will work on the development of FX Options end-of-day Official Valuation capabilities, where correctness, data quality and reliability are critical.

The role covers the complete engineering lifecycle, from requirements gathering and technical design through development, testing, review and production release.

You will work closely with the bank's engineers who own the EOD module, as well as trading desks and partner systems, helping translate business requirements into robust production capabilities.

Essential functions

Key Responsibilities

  • Build FX Options end-of-day Official Valuation capabilities on the next-generation FX Risk Platform.

  • Develop production-grade Java and Kotlin stream-processing pipelines using Apache Flink.

  • Translate business and trading requirements into robust technical solutions.

  • Work closely with the Asia FX trading desk and partner systems to understand and refine requirements.

  • Design and implement processing workflows where correctness and data integrity are critical.

  • Build comprehensive testing and reconciliation processes around valuation outputs.

  • Carefully handle late, missing or corrected data within processing pipelines.

  • Own changes through the complete lifecycle:

    • Requirements

    • Technical design

    • Development

    • Code review

    • Testing

    • Release

    • Production support

  • Work closely with the engineers responsible for the EOD module.

  • Contribute to the progressive decommissioning of legacy FX risk applications.

  • Support the operation and reliability of production data-processing systems.

Qualifications

Essential Experience

Java & Kotlin

  • Strong commercial experience with Kotlin.

  • Strong core Java experience.

  • Experience building and operating production-grade applications.

  • Comfortable working within complex enterprise technology environments.

Data Processing & Apache Flink

  • Experience building and operating production data-processing systems.

  • Good practical understanding of Apache Flink.

Candidates without direct Flink experience may still be considered where they have deep experience with comparable stream-processing technologies and demonstrate a clear appetite to develop deep expertise in Flink.

Data Correctness & Reliability

This role places particular emphasis on correctness rather than simply throughput.

You should have experience with:

  • Comprehensive automated testing.

  • Data reconciliation.

  • Data-quality controls.

  • Handling late-arriving data.

  • Handling missing data.

  • Handling corrected or amended data.

  • Designing systems where processing accuracy and repeatability are critical.

Domain Experience

Experience in the following areas would be highly valuable:

  • FX

  • FX Options

  • Derivatives

  • Valuation

  • Risk

  • End-of-day processing

  • Trading systems

  • Market data

  • Financial data processing

A strong understanding of FX Options valuations and end-of-day processes would be particularly relevant.

Trading Desk & Stakeholder Engagement

You will work directly with a range of stakeholders, so strong communication skills are essential.

You should be comfortable:

  • Engaging directly with trading desks.

  • Gathering and refining technical and business requirements.

  • Working with partner systems and upstream/downstream teams.

  • Explaining technical decisions clearly.

  • Challenging requirements where necessary.

  • Working closely with the engineers responsible for the platform module.

  • Supporting users and stakeholders across different time zones.

Experience supporting trading desks across multiple time zones, particularly Asia, would be highly valued.

Full Delivery Ownership

This role is not limited to development.

You will own your changes through the full engineering lifecycle, including:

Requirements → Design → Development → Review → Testing → Release → Production

You will be expected to take responsibility for the quality and operational behaviour of the capabilities you build.

Would be a plus

Highly Valued Experience

The following would be particularly advantageous:

  • Production Apache Flink experience.

  • Strong Kotlin development experience.

  • FX or derivatives technology.

  • FX Options.

  • Valuation systems.

  • End-of-day processing.

  • Risk platforms.

  • Trading desk technology.

  • Stream-processing at scale.

  • Experience working with late, missing or corrected financial data.

  • Experience in banking or another large regulated enterprise.

  • Experience supporting global trading desks across different time zones.

The Environment

You will join a Tier 1 global investment bank with a major markets and trading technology organisation.

The wider technology environment supports business-critical trading, risk and data platforms, operating to high engineering standards within a demanding regulated environment.

You will be embedded alongside the bank's engineering team rather than operating as a detached delivery function. This provides direct exposure to the platform owners, trading desks and partner systems.

Why This Role?

This is an opportunity to work on a strategic, next-generation FX Risk Platform that is consolidating capabilities previously spread across multiple legacy applications.

You will play a key role in building the FX Options Official Valuation capability that supports an Asia-based FX trading desk, working with modern technologies including Kotlin, Java and Apache Flink.

The role combines hands-on software engineering with meaningful exposure to FX Options, valuation, risk and trading technology, while giving you ownership across the full delivery lifecycle.

You will also have the opportunity to contribute to the modernisation and eventual decommissioning of legacy risk platforms.

About JUXT

JUXT is a premium software consultancy working with some of the world's largest financial and banking organisations.

JUXT's engineers work on complex technology programmes where software engineering quality, pragmatic delivery and deep technical expertise are central to the engagement.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will be a strong Kotlin/Java engineer who has experience building reliable production data-processing systems and is comfortable working in a highly regulated financial environment.

You should have a strong focus on correctness, testing and data integrity, combined with the ability to communicate directly with trading desks and technical stakeholders.

Kotlin and core Java are essential. Apache Flink experience is highly desirable, although strong stream-processing experience with a genuine appetite to learn Flink will also be considered.

Experience with FX Options, valuations, risk and end-of-day processing would make you particularly well suited to the role.
