Senior KDB+/Q Engineer
We are seeking an experienced, delivery-focused Senior KDB+/Q Engineer to design and optimize high-performance, low-latency KDB+/Q applications that form the strategic analytics and data backbone for an electronic trading platform.
In this role, you will work on the core infrastructure processing massive real-time and historical time-series datasets. You will be responsible for scaling the estate—focusing on gateway architecture, query performance, and resilience under live market load—while collaborating closely with quantitative researchers, traders, and software engineers.
Essential functions
Designing, building, and optimizing real-time and historical analytics applications across tickerplant, RDB, and HDB architectures.
Optimizing query performance, load balancing, gateway design, and overall resilience for high-throughput intraday and historical workloads.
Developing robust tooling for platform monitoring, trade reconciliation, and automated recovery to ensure high availability under heavy trading load.
Diagnosing and resolving complex production issues in real time under live trading traffic.
Partnering with quant research, product, and technology teams to design new trading analytics, execution analytics (TCA), and market data capabilities.
Driving continuous improvement in automated testing frameworks, CI/CD pipelines, and modern AI-assisted engineering practices across the team.
Qualifications
Deep KDB+/Q Expertise: Production track record in scaling, load-balancing, gateway design, and query optimization within a KDB+/Q estate.
Low-Latency / High-Performance Background: Proven experience building ultra-low-latency, time-series systems within financial markets or automated trading environments.
Financial Messaging & Protocols: Solid understanding of FIX protocol and working with large-scale order and market datasets.
Linux & Scripting: Strong Linux/UNIX system-level skills and proficiency in Bash and Python scripting.
Production Debugging: Exceptional troubleshooting ability, including live debugging under production trading loads.
Autonomy & Communication: Ability to take ownership, prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment, and articulate technical ideas clearly to traders, quants, and developers.
Would be a plus
Equities & Electronic Trading: Domain knowledge in Cash Equities, Market Making, Transaction Cost Analysis (TCA), or the end-to-end order lifecycle.
Java Integration: Hands-on Java experience to effectively interface with services surrounding the KDB+ ecosystem.
Modern Data & Cloud Infrastructure: Exposure to containerized deployments (Kubernetes/OpenShift) or cloud time-series/data engines (e.g., Snowflake, Starburst/Trino).
Mentorship: Experience mentoring engineers in low-latency KDB+/Q engineering best practices.
