Senior Software Engineer (Java- Big Data)

US Remote, US

We are looking for a skilled Backend / Big Data Engineer to join a technology modernization initiative focused on building scalable data and AI-driven applications. You will work primarily with Java, Big Data technologies, AWS, and Kubernetes, helping modernize existing data platforms and develop backend services that support large-scale analytics and AI search capabilities.

Essential functions

  • Participate in design and development of Big Data analytical applications

  • Design, support and continuously enhance the project code base, continuous integration pipeline, etc.

  • Write complex ETL processes and frameworks for analytics and data management

  • Work inside a team of industry experts on cutting-edge Big Data technologies to develop solutions for deployment at massive scale

Qualifications

  • Strong proficiency in Java backend development, particularly REST services and production troubleshooting

  • Experience working with Big data for Analytics or ML data in data formats like Iceberg, Lance formats using processing frameworks like Spark, Flink are required

  • Experience with AWS cloud services and infrastructure

  • Hands-on experience with Kubernetes

  • Understanding of performance and scalability aspects of distributed systems

  • Ability to design and implement robust API solutions

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or similar field.

Would be a plus

  • Familiarity with workflow management tools like Airflow

  • Knowledge of modern data architecture like data lakes and data lakehouses

  • Experience with version control systems, CI/CD practices, and testing frameworks

  • Proficiency in Scala or Python (complementary to Java skills)
