Site Reliability Engineer (Hadoop)

Wroclaw, Krakow, Gdansk, Warsaw, Poland

We are seeking a Site Reliability Engineer (Hadoop) to join the big data platform operations of a global payments technology company. In this role, you will keep open-source big data platforms such as Hadoop, Spark and HBase reliable and efficient, build software and automation that take manual work out of operations, and turn capacity and usage data into trend analysis that guides how the platforms grow.

Essential functions

  • Big Data SRE: Carry out site reliability duties for open-source big data platforms, including Hadoop, Spark and HBase.

  • Operational Automation: Develop software systems and automated solutions for operational tasks, and enable automations through a front-end UI so they run seamlessly.

  • Software Delivery: Write efficient code based on requirements, then verify and deploy the resulting programs.

  • Performance & Tuning: Troubleshoot, debug, upgrade and tune existing programs to improve performance and efficiency.

  • Capacity Analytics: Create reports and trend analysis on capacity metrics and usage patterns.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience as a Big Data (Hadoop) Site Reliability Engineer for mid and senior levels, or 2–3 years for the junior level.

  • Hadoop Platforms: Strong knowledge of Hadoop platforms and core Hadoop components.

  • Coding: Programming skills in Java or Python.

  • Systems Fundamentals: Familiarity with Unix/Linux system internals, networking and distributed systems.

  • Software Development Life Cycle: Familiarity with the SDLC.

  • Learning Agility: Ability to pick up new languages and technologies quickly.

Would be a plus

  • Spark & HBase: Hands-on operational experience with Spark and HBase.

  • UI Automation: Experience building front-end tooling to trigger and manage operational automations.

  • Capacity Planning: Experience analysing capacity metrics and usage trends for large-scale platforms.
