Senior QA Engineer

Essential functions

• Quality Gates & Definition of Done: Work with architects before build to review designs, challenge ambiguous or untestable acceptance criteria, and agree the quality gates and the definition of “done” for each integration with the Technical Lead and Integration Architect.

• Contract-First API Testing: Test integrations against their OpenAPI contracts, covering breaking-change detection, schema validation and consumer-driven contracts, and review and extend generated contract tests, using mocks and stubs to test consumers and providers independently.

• Gateway & Security Testing: Test Azure API Management policies, products, subscriptions, versions and revisions, pinpoint whether a failure sits in the gateway or the backend, and run API security checks covering OAuth2 client credentials, HMAC signatures, negative credential cases and the OWASP API Security Top 10.

• Pipeline Test Automation: Build and maintain test automation in Azure DevOps YAML pipelines, including per-environment test stages, published results, flaky-test control, merge protection and promotion steps, plus smoke, configuration and drift checks on deployed infrastructure.

• Observability & Resilience: Trace requests by correlation ID with Azure Monitor, Application Insights and KQL, verify telemetry and alerts, and contribute to load, soak and failover testing where needed.

• Quality Leadership: Coach developers and DevOps engineers on testability, run end-to-end flow testing with the integrations assurance team, and report quality risks clearly to technical leads and senior stakeholders.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of commercial experience in QA, including 3+ years in API testing.

• Contract Testing: Hands-on experience testing REST APIs against OpenAPI, including breaking-change detection, schema validation and consumer-driven contracts (e.g. Pact), with the ability to review and extend generated tests rather than only run them.

• API Test Tooling: Strong skills with tools such as Postman/Newman, REST Assured, Karate or Playwright API testing.

• Azure API Management: Experience testing APIM policies (rate limits, auth checks, error model, correlation ID handling), products, subscriptions, versions and revisions, and telling gateway issues from backend issues.

• API Security: Practical testing of OAuth2 client credentials, token scopes and expiry, HMAC signature validation and negative credential cases, plus solid knowledge of the OWASP API Security Top 10.

• CI/CD for Tests: Experience building test stages and quality gates in Azure DevOps YAML pipelines and wiring them into branch policies and promotion steps.

• Communication & Ownership: English at B2+ or higher, with the confidence to explain test results and quality risks to UK-based stakeholders, push back on unclear requirements, and own issues through to resolution in an autonomous, multi-vendor team.

• Azure Platform Depth: Working knowledge of Entra ID, Key Vault, private endpoints, Azure Monitor, Application Insights and KQL, and the ability to review Terraform or Bicep.

• Performance & Messaging Testing: Experience with k6, JMeter or Azure Load Testing (load, mixed-load, soak, failover), and with testing event flows (schemas, ordering, replays).

• Integration Landscape: Background in standards-heavy multi-vendor platforms, SAP integrations, or data platform and analytics integration testing.

• Domain Knowledge: Exposure to sustainability, logistics or supply-chain data, and to risk-based testing.

• Mentoring & Documentation: Experience coaching engineers on testability and writing acceptance criteria and sign-off evidence that other teams can reuse.
