Senior SQL Server Database Engineer

Core Requirements Summary

Strong SQL Server DBA expertise with core technical skills in SQL Server database topology, design, and migration. Experience with public cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, and/or GCP is required, along with strong database automation expertise using Python and PowerShell. Hands-on experience with env0/Terraform and Ansible is also expected, along with the ability to support complex database migration projects.

·       Core SQL Server DBA Expertise (8–10 Years): Deep proficiency in SQL Server architecture, high-availability topology design, performance tuning, capacity planning, and schema/instance optimization.

·       Multi-Cloud Platform Proficiency: Hands-on experience architecting and evaluating SQL Server deployments across AWS, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), and Microsoft Azure, balancing self-managed vs. native cloud managed database services.

·       Infrastructure as Code & Automation: Strong skills in automated provisioning and configuration using Ansible playbooks, Terraform, and env0 for consistent deployment across private and public cloud environments.

·       Scripting & Software Engineering: Proficiency in Python and PowerShell scripting to automate repetitive database maintenance, deployment pipelines, verification, and monitoring tasks.

·       Complex Database Migrations: Proven record of executing multi-platform database migrations (e.g., legacy Oracle to SQL Server, or on-premise SQL Server to multi-cloud topologies) with minimal operational downtime.

·       Data Localization & Compliance Design: Understanding of regional data residency regulations, designing localized database instances in specific cloud regions to adhere to national sovereignty compliance rules.

3. Detailed Key Responsibilities

·       Database Infrastructure & Topology Design: Evaluate application requirements from internal development partners and establish standardized SQL Server database topologies across multi-cloud and on-premise environments.

·       Automation Playbook Development: Build, test, and maintain enterprise Ansible playbooks and Terraform/env0 scripts for database provisioning, patching, backup orchestration, and security compliance.

·       Public Cloud Onboarding & Data Sovereignty: Guide application teams through cloud database onboarding across AWS, GCP, and Azure, selecting optimal architectures to meet regional data localization mandates.

·       Complex Migration Execution: Lead end-to-end database migration projects—including cross-engine conversions (e.g., Oracle to SQL Server) and lift-and-shift cloud transitions—ensuring data integrity and seamless operational cutovers.

·       Operations Handoff & Enablement: Construct production-ready database instances and handover live infrastructure to dedicated 24/7 L2/L3 operations teams with full documentation and monitoring runbooks.
