Senior Golang Engineer - Research Computing Platform
The Opportunity
JUXT (part of Grid Dynamics) is partnering with a leading global quantitative investment firm to build the next generation of its Research Computing Platform in London.
The platform will enable quantitative researchers to submit and manage large, complex computational workloads, running securely and efficiently across a high-performance computing (HPC) cluster.
We are looking for a Senior Golang Engineer to join the engineering team, building the backend services, APIs and infrastructure tooling that connect researchers with the underlying compute infrastructure.
This is a hands-on engineering position focused on backend and platform development, where performance, security, reliability and scalability are critical. You will work on systems that sit at the heart of the firm's research operations, taking ownership of significant engineering challenges from design through to production.
Essential functions
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop and maintain production-grade backend services and platform tooling using Go.
Build research-facing HTTP APIs and Python client libraries for submitting and managing computational workflows.
Develop services supporting task graphs (DAGs), job submission, retries, cancellation, logging and resource profiling.
Integrate with cluster workload schedulers, translating researcher workloads into efficient execution plans.
Design and maintain platform state services and relational databases to track jobs, resources and execution status.
Implement secure authentication, encryption and secrets management, including PKI, key management and token-based authentication.
Develop automation for host lifecycle management, including draining, rebuilding and patching compute infrastructure.
Build containerised job execution tooling using Docker and Podman, managing credentials, encrypted working directories, metrics and cleanup.
Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment processes across development, pre-production and production environments.
Work closely with infrastructure, platform and research engineering teams to deliver reliable and scalable solutions.
Use AI-assisted development tools and modern LLMs as part of everyday engineering workflows.
Qualifications
Essential Skills & Experience
Strong commercial experience developing production backend services and systems using Go (Golang).
Solid understanding of Linux systems, infrastructure, networking and operating system fundamentals.
Hands-on experience with containers, particularly Docker or Podman.
Strong relational database experience, ideally PostgreSQL and/or MariaDB/MySQL.
Experience designing database schemas and modelling complex system state.
Practical knowledge of secrets management, encryption and security, including Vault or equivalent secrets stores, PKI, asymmetric cryptography and token-based authentication.
Experience building and operating CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment processes.
Strong understanding of distributed systems, reliability and production engineering.
Ability to take ownership of technical deliverables, make architectural decisions and solve complex engineering problems.
Experience using AI-assisted development tools and recent AI models as part of the software engineering process.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Would be a plus
Desirable Experience
High-performance computing (HPC) or batch scheduling environments.
Experience with Slurm or similar workload schedulers.
Workflow orchestration technologies such as Temporal.
Python development, particularly for APIs and client libraries.
Experience building internal developer platforms or tooling used by other engineering teams.
Exposure to GPU workloads and high-performance compute infrastructure.
Experience with on-premises infrastructure and cloud environments, particularly AWS.
Experience with GitLab CI/CD and Ansible.
Background in quantitative finance, scientific computing or research engineering.
Technology Stack
Backend: Go, Python
Databases: PostgreSQL, MariaDB, MySQL
Infrastructure: Linux, on-premises infrastructure, AWS
Containers: Docker, Podman
Scheduling: Slurm / HPC workload management
Security: Vault, PKI, encryption, token-based authentication
DevOps: GitLab CI/CD, Ansible
Architecture: Distributed systems, microservices, workflow orchestration, event-driven services
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for an experienced Go Engineer who enjoys solving challenging backend, systems and infrastructure problems.
You should be comfortable working close to the underlying infrastructure, including Linux hosts, containers, schedulers, storage and networking, while building reliable services that other engineers and quantitative researchers depend on.
You will bring strong engineering fundamentals, a security-conscious mindset and the ability to take ownership of complex technical projects. Experience in HPC or quantitative finance would be advantageous, but strong Go and systems engineering experience are the priority.
