Senior Ruby on Rails Engineer
We’re looking for a strong Ruby on Rails engineer to contribute to two high-impact features within a large-scale consumer product used by millions of users.
Primary Project
You’ll work on a human–bot interaction flow powered by in-house AI models. The feature helps users craft higher-quality request notes using both text and imagery. This is an iOS-only experience and requires backend updates in Ruby on Rails along with GraphQL schema and service changes. You’ll collaborate with a dedicated iOS engineer for the client-side integration. This space requires a self-starter who can make progress with limited engineering support.
Secondary Project
You’ll support enhancements to a chat experience where users communicate directly with human experts for styling insights. This includes web-based tooling for experts and iOS UI for clients. Most work involves Rails and GraphQL, with occasional contributions to the web frontend. This project offers more collaboration and support but involves context switching between feature areas.
Essential functions
Deliver backend and GraphQL updates for new and existing product features
Collaborate with designers and cross-functional engineers across iOS, web, and backend teams
Break down complex work into manageable tickets for yourself and others
Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical partners
Provide technical solutions and articulate tradeoffs clearly
Participate in git-based workflows, code reviews, and engineering best practices
Qualifications
Extensive experience with Ruby on Rails, including scaling Rails applications with PostgreSQL
Strong experience with GraphQL (Apollo, schema design, API best practices)
Proficiency with Git, GitHub workflows, and pull request code review
Strong communication and collaboration skills
Strong analytical skills and ability to reason about technical tradeoffs
Ability to self-manage work and create clear, actionable engineering tickets
Would be a plus
Experience with Kafka, Redis, or event-driven system communication
Understanding of resilient distributed systems
Experience with Next.js or similar full-stack JavaScript frameworks
Experience with feature flags or gated rollouts
Familiarity with Percy and browser testing in CI
Experience with Datadog or similar observability tools
Frontend experience: React, JavaScript, CSS, Styled Components
Experience with/willingness to learn TypeScript
Interest in backend-leaning full-stack work
